SOL for ED-554
Last semester was the first time I
did my field experience in a public elementary school in the United States. In
second-grade reading lessons, students learned to expand vocabulary. The
teacher incorporated technology in her lessons perfectly. She used the smart
board. She also asked the students to use the computer, listen to the reading,
and do the tasks. The students learned effectively. As a teacher, it is
significant to teach vocabulary to second graders, so according to the Virginia
Department of Education SOL, students will expand their vocabulary using
knowledge of prefixes and suffixes. It helps them understand what they are
reading. They also need to know that the keyword may share a prefix or suffix
and that this addition changes words' meaning. In addition, breaking down these
words into parts allows them to spell unknown words. I want my students to
learn English vocabulary interactively, so I believe that a great way to do
that is to integrate technology into my lessons. Using a smart board,
applications, games, videos, and music will motivate my students to learn and
engage in a fun way. Using the projector, my students will learn new words. I
believe that technology will enable my students to learn through multi sensory
learning. That means they will learn by auditory, visual, tactile, and
kinesthetic tools. My students will also access these applications, practice
learning, and do homework from home. Students will use computers to perform
individual and group tasks. My students will learn, love what they learned, and
practice it in their lives.

I like the way you relied on your personal experience when selecting this SOL and shared this through your blog. It seems like this SOL really means something to you and I agree, teaching vocabulary, and doing so with instruction on prefixes and suffixes is so important. I look forward to seeing how you integrate technology into your instruction.
